Kathmandu, the capital, is home to 700,000 people and is the largest city in the country. This amazing city can seem in places to be a huge intricate sculpture, unchanged since the Middle Ages. For many people, arriving here is as shocking as stepping back in time. The narrow streets and lanes house tiny hole-in-the-wall shops, town squares packed with temples and monuments, markets bright with fruit and vegetables as well as a constant throng of humanity.
